8 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking – Lemosho Route Overview
The Lemosho Route is renowned for its stunning landscapes, excellent acclimatization profile, and lower crowd levels. It offers a diverse trekking experience, passing through rainforests, moorlands, alpine deserts, and glaciers, culminating in the ascent to Uhuru Peak at 5,895m (19,341 ft). The 8-day itinerary allows for a gradual ascent, increasing the likelihood of success.

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp
Elevation: 2,100m to 2,600m
Distance: ~5 km
Hiking Time: 2–3 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
Arrive at Londorossi Gate for registration and briefing. Begin trekking through dense rainforest with abundant flora and fauna to Big Tree Camp.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Overnight: Big Tree Camp
Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Elevation: 2,600m to 3,500m
Distance: ~8 km
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Habitat: Forest to moorland
Exit the rainforest and ascend onto the Shira Plateau, a stunning moorland area with spectacular views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks. Camp at Shira 1 Camp.

Overnight: Shira 1 Camp
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Elevation: 3,500m to 3,840m
Distance: ~5 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Moorland
A shorter hiking day to help acclimatize, trekking across the plateau to Shira 2 Camp. Enjoy panoramic views and diverse vegetation.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
Elevation: 3,840m to 4,630m (Lava Tower), then down to 3,960m
Distance: ~10 km

Habitat: Semi-desert
Climb steadily to the Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend through the scenic Barranco Valley to Barranco Camp.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Elevation: 3,960m to 4,035m
Distance: ~5 km
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, then traverse to Karanga Camp for overnight.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Ascend to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the midnight summit climb.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp (Summit Day)
Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak), then down to 3,100m
Distance: ~17 km
Hiking Time: 11–14 hours total
Habitat: Arctic to rainforest
Begin the summit climb around midnight. Reach Uhuru Peak by sunrise, then descend to Mweka Camp via Barafu Camp for overnight rest.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Transfer to Moshi/Arusha

Descend through lush forest to Mweka Gate, collect your summit certificate, and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
